When it comes to your core offering, for most glamping sites it starts and ends with the accommodation, but upselling can be surprisingly easy to do and with a little imagination, you can come up with a range of additional add-on options that will help you to increase the revenue generated through bookings.
Glamping Site Upselling Ideas
Locally sourced is something that you should be tapping into. The glamping demographic has some unique characteristics, and whilst a few will be looking for a bargain, you’ll probably find that most guests are willing to pay extra for the convenience of a breakfast hamper and will pay a premium for high-quality, locally sourced produce.
Deluxe Welcome Packs
Whilst most glamping accommodation will include some basics like tea, coffee, sugar and washing up liquid or may include a welcome pack with a few extra goodies, why not put together a deluxe welcome pack as an extra option? Add some delicious locally sourced treats, some lovely locally made toiletries and any other thoughtful extras you can think of.
Craft Or Skill Workshops
Crafting and wellbeing are currently super popular right now, so if you have a skill, why not pass it on? Of course, it goes without saying that anything outdoorsy is likely to go down well (think foraging, fire making and bushcraft type skills), but quiet mindful crafts can also be popular, from basket weaving to crochet, so if you’ve got a skill why not pass it on?
Farm Life Experience
Invite guests to experience a taste of life on a working farm or smallholding. From feeding animals to mucking out or milking, you’d be surprised what people are willing to pay to experience! Of course, a full risk assessment will need doing and appropriate liability insurance will need to be in place before implementing.
Alpaca trekking has become hugely popular over the last few years, so if you have animals, consider offering controlled access to allow people to get up close and personal.
Obviously, animal welfare remains of paramount importance, but if you’ve already got animals, try and think of ways that guests could get involved with them in a way that would be fun and rewarding for them. Often people who don’t live in the countryside will relish the opportunity to get close to animals so any livestock or pets that you have could be a potential asset.
How about providing some nice essential pulse point oils, massage oil, a scented candle and something like the little book of calm and some delicious but healthy(ish) treats or fresh fruit? If you have a hot tub on-site, you could look at providing a fluffy bathrobe and slippers as part of the upgrade package.
Couples will often choose to book a glamping break for a special reason, either to get some much needed time alone together or for an anniversary. Offer a romance package with locally sourced flowers, chocolates and a bottle of bubbly, or anything else you can think of.
Similar to a romance package, this could include a bottle of bubbly, locally sourced cupcakes or a home-made cake, bunting to decorate the accommodation and anything else you can think of that would make celebrating a birthday or occasion that bit more special.
How to price glamping upsells
Getting your pricing right is likely to involve a bit of trial and error, but once you’ve decided on your packages, make sure you add them to your website.
After that, decide how you’re going to let people know about them, for example through social media or whether you want to run a paid advertising campaign. Make sure too that whatever booking engine you use, you add all the new packages to them so that they can be purchased at the time of booking.
Have a look at what competitors are doing and get an idea of what to charge based on what competitors are charging. You might want to match their pricing or price yourself under or above depending on your strategy.
If you find you don’t get much uptake, ensure you are promoting the packages as effectively as possible and that you have big, enticing images that show each package off.
You might need to adjust your pricing initially, but once you get it right, packages can be an excellent way of boosting the revenue generated by your glamping accommodation.
